What is the "disambiguation" and what should I put?
The "disambiguation" is a short description of the word in your language, for the benefit of your compatriots, in case the word in question has (in your language) more than one meaning. The "disambiguation" clarifies which meaning the word refers to (and thus makes clear which foreign word the user should enter). The disambiguation may be left blank if the word in your language has only one meaning (even if the English word has a disambiguation). For example, the English word "spring" can mean "a bouncy metal coil" or it can mean "a source of water". But in Japanese, "a bouncy metal coil" is bane, whereas "a source of water" is izumi. So if an English-speaking user trying to learn Japanese is confronted with the word "spring", he/she will not know whether to type "bane" or "izumi". So a disambiguation in English is added to help the user decide which to put. In conclusion, the disambiguation is added for the benefit of native speakers of your language, who are trying to learn something else. It is up to you to decide whether a disambiguation is necessary or not. There is no need to translate every disambiguation found in the English module. |
